019. Prevention [Voice Post]
Another murder... The beginning of another investigation process to determine the culprit, and the underlying "puzzle."
It is so strange, to witness such a thing as it lacks the involvement of Yako Katsuragi and her assistant. ...If she were here, then how would all this play out, I wonder.
This transformation has given me some time to think, and I cannot account for whether that is such a good or bad thing.
There is no need for me to dwell on the past, since I feel nothing for my own history. It has already been erased. Instead, it is the present and the future that troubles me.
If the timeline of this world is the same as the one that I was brought from, then time is running out. Less than two months... that is all the time that is left. ...What will happen in this world, and how will I be able to prepare for the consequences of it this time?
[A pause] I must not trouble myself like this. Instead, I need to be working harder to do what I can to stop it from happening again. To erase the possibility of starting over without ever having a choice in the matter.
I apologize ahead of time. I know that the timing is most unfortunate with the effects that the contaminated water and the accompanying transformations are having on all of you, but I feel that I must ask for your cooperation.
In spite of any lack of available research materials you may have, I am asking that you share any knowledge that you may have on the structure of the human brain, its chemistry and its ability to process memory. I seek this knowledge in order to prevent an inevitable condition that my partner, Sai, experiences.
His genetic makeup is unstable and constantly changing, and this feature comes with its own consequences. With every change, a piece of what he has learned of a previous event becomes forgotten. He has no choice in the matter, and neither do I. Sometimes not even change is required for a piece of insignificant information to be lost in his memory, which can be a place, time, or a favorite food. The most dramatic experience he has from this condition is the erasure of his entire memory upon the conclusion of a six-month-long period (by my count). He experiences a great amount of mental and physical anguish prior to this moment, and it is unbearable.
I am not asking for a miracle, but for an answer of what countermeasures I can use against this condition. Before I am forced to take matters into my own hands.
... [Sigh]
I hope that a cure is developed for this transformation soon. I cannot play the piano with these hands.

It's not this world or my own that I am concerned with, but the effect that it will have on my partner.
Re: [Voice]
You said we have less than two months if this world is following the same as your own.
What happens in two months?

Man, I don't get really what you're talking about, but I do know that it'd be great if this... animal transformation thing went away really soon!

[Private to Sonic; Unhackable]
...
Sonic, let me ask you something honestly...
If the possibility that all the grievances between you and Sai could suddenly be erased existed, then would you be able to accept that? Or would you prefer that he remain the person that he is now?
[Private to Ai]
I want Sai and I to be able to get along, I really do! But... That kid is dangerous.
[Private to Sonic; Unhackable]
Sonic, I cannot promise you that he will no longer be a danger to himself and to others. His current existence threatens that possibility, and it is only so that he may be able to discover who he is in the only way that he knows how. To analyze cells...
[A pause.] If nothing is done to stop it, he will forget everything. Every memory he has experienced from Discedo will be lost. I less than two months, that may become a reality...
[Private to Ai]
I mean. I'd hate to forget all the people I met here, but it doesn't sound like Sai is having a good time here at all.
I wonder if he'd think it's a bad thing to forget everyone here.
[Private to Sonic; Unhackable]
I've been wondering about that myself lately...
[Private to Ai]
I guess the best thing we can do for him is just... stay around. I can't go near him or you without Sai getting angry... But you gotta stay with him, Ai. I know that now.
[Private to Sonic; Unhackable]
I'm not going anywhere.
Same Filter;
In the meantime, if Sai is aware of these lapses in his memories, there are steps he can take to at least minimize the damage. Keeping a journal, for example. The recorded conversations he's had with others on these communicators will be a big help if he forgets too much.
You also mentioned that he experiences pain before it happens...how long before the memory lapse does the pain start?
[Filtered; Unhackable]
He can no longer recall any part of himself or his past, not even in his deepest subconsciousness. This is a symptom that he has been experiencing even from the moment I met him.
That is a good suggestion, Dr. Tam. I will be sure to bring it up with him. Though I believe that he has avoided the idea previously because he felt it would be "boring," and doesn't realize how it can help him until it is already too late. The recorded conversations, however, is something I will keep in mind and try to store for later use. I believe it will be beneficial to helping him create new memories.
The initial symptoms can begin as early as a month prior to the time his memory is completely erased. They occur in the form of occasional headaches, or pain similar to a full-blown migraine. ...The closer he is to that appointed time, the shorter the distance between the frequency of these symptoms and the more severe they become.

Linda, may I propose a hypothetical question to you?
How would you feel if Sai suddenly forgot everything he has ever spoken with you about, including who you are and his friendship with you?

I'm telling you, it's not-...

Your chip has been removed. I'm sure that even if you haven't eaten in awhile... the ability to regenerate still has some effect on your body and mind.

Everything will be safe if that is the case.
...
Also, Ai?

I wonder...
...?
Yes?

...and I was almost certain that frogs were your favorite thing to eat.

... Why would I like something so yucky as that?
no subject
"I know! The real me is a person who loves frogs~~!!"
"Okay, now that it's settled, give me frogs every day."

That's so gross and yucky. My real self likes curry, not frogs!

There is no control over it, and his memories keep getting lost for every transformation.
Re: [Voice]
How often are his transformation?
[Voice]
As often as he forgets who he is and decides to take on a new identity. It is a vicious cycle.
